Worf Ancestor In ‘Star Trek: Discovery’? It Almost Happened

February 15, Believe it or not, after seven installments there’s still stuff left to say about Deep Space Nine. Here are a few topics that didn’t grow into full-fledged essays: It’s an axiom of television writing that romance, and specifically romantic pursuit, is interesting, but established relationships, and most especially marriages, are boring. Perhaps because it was generally strongest when telling stories about the conventional and the mundane, on Deep Space Nine the reverse was true.

Its romantic plotlines were usually obvious and uninspired and occasionally offensive , but its depictions of long-term romantic relationships were winning and, yes, romantic. Dax and Worf come together in the most insipid of ways, and the fifth season episodes that focus on their courtship are tiresome and in some cases “Let He Who is Without Sin” borderline unwatchable.

Jadzia was a trully charismatic character. Worf and Dax were fantastic together. I wish she’d never died on the show but at least with the infinity.

On paper, Change of Heart is a wonderful premise. Due to expedience, Worf and Jadzia are assigned on a covert mission that eventually leads to the potential recovery of a Cardassian defector. Without medical attention, she will bleed to death. As such, Worf finds himself caught between the oath that he swore to Starfleet and his duty to the woman that he loved.

That is harrowing drama, right there. The execution is also very solid. Ronald D.

April in The Bridge. April Dax has more traits, but I like T’Pol better, so I went with her. April edited April T’Pol ever so slightly edges Dax out with the stats, but Dax’s traits especially Gambler meant I ended up keeping Dax in the end.

For me T’Pol wins. She has the Vulcan and Telepath traits which are used on some cadet nodes. My cadet crew are now: T’Pol – Science and Diplomacy. Nog also has Gambler, Starfleet and Ferengi, so covers Dax’s gambler trait for diplomacy With starbase bonuses and traits, the three crew with diplomacy as a second stat cover diplomacy nodes, and if one is fatigued, then another can cover the node.

So, Worf and Dax are getting married. I guess that makes sense? Hurrah for them. Had to happen eventually, or whatever. Terry Farrell and Michael Dorn do their best, and the constant attempts to hammer home that these two characters are deeply committed to, and deeply passionate about, each other has at least managed to make the couple vaguely plausible. Dax is into strong, stern types who give her someone to bounce off of while keeping her grounded; Worf digs a woman who can love him and poke fun at his self-seriousness which actually makes sense, given the little we know of his romantic history.

Many fans felt her death was untimely and objected to her replacement with Ezri. Not surprisingly, resurrecting the character is a trope in some fanfiction , particularly in het stories. This used to be amongst the most common het pairings in the DS9 fandom, though its popularity seems to be on the wane.

Change of Heart

Not only did several actors see and portray their characters as being quite genderfluid and sexually ambiguous, but there were even multiple storylines pushing those boundaries. However, despite the queerness their actors and stories supported, the writers tried their darnedest to fight back against what they created.
